This three-story house on a hillside has an unusually deep lot with lots of wonderful spaces to explore. But access from the main second-story living area to the garden below was extremely limited, making the garden difficult to enjoy. A small deck off the kitchen was renovated into a large wrap-around deck that connects the living room and kitchen to the outdoors, and a folding glass door replaced the existing living room window to truly bring the outdoors in.
This stunning deck was designed to maximize the view of the San Francisco Bay and includes a curved metal railing with glass panels which organically integrates into the surrounding landscape, and a steel spiral staircase that gives easy access to the garden below. Now, the residents can truly experience outdoor California living as they lounge on the chaise with their morning coffee, dine al fresco as birds chirp in the trees, and enjoy a glass of wine at sunset with friends.
