This hillside property had some outdoor space, but felt cramped for a family with two energetic young boys. We created a more useable and unified space for both adults and kids to enjoy, repairing and improving what was already there. An existing play structure was re-located to allow for the renovation and expansion of the lower deck area. The newly expanded wood-framed deck includes concrete paver decking, which seamlessly connects to an at-grade patio paved with the same material to create cohesion within the entire backyard.
A new steel spiral staircase was added to the upper deck to connect the kitchen to the garden below. Concrete and Corten steel retaining walls lend a modern feeling to this tiered garden space, and a custom gas fire pit provides a relaxing space for enjoying the outdoors. Now, the family has plenty of room to run, climb, garden and entertain.
